A dedicated collection of symbolic imagery surrounding a classical motif, Memento Mori, which is a Latin phrase meaning “remember you will die.”
A steadfast reminder that life is short and to use your precious time in this world wisely. In composing this piece, stories surrounding this idea are endless, but Samuel’s favorite is that of The Roman Triumph. It’s a depiction of a public celebration of battle where a slave reminds a general that no matter his position on or off the battlefield, his own mortality is just as likely as the soldier. Elements of the warrior, the general, rational thought, and of course, death, are all in play here. The chest allowed us to compose this piece in a way that other areas of the body could not.
