7 Deadly Sins

Clint is back in from Canada for back to back sessions. Its an honor to work with clients like Clint that are willing to invest themselves both mind, body and soul in the building process of these larger scale works. Of course both sides, the client and the artist would like the end vision to be realized sooner than later, we must respect the fact that the end results are always dictated by the attention to detail during the building process. Few see what goes on behind the curtains, the countless hours in the studio, multiple sessions, and endless other areas of work that go into each and every project. Clint is truly part of a rare breed...

Beginning with the inner section that will eventually bridge to the outer, Temptation and Lust are the focus. Theme surrounding the conscious understanding of 7 Deadly Sins, so that they do not decide one's downfall.

Always a smooth run with Clint, when you love what you do its easy to get lost in your work and let those late nights turn into early mornings. Another one of those sessions where the sunrise found us before the work day was done. A fun twist to the classic story of Medusa, providing a contemporary depiction that remains consistent with the whole.

"We are punished by our sins, not for them..."

Be sure to keep an eye out for this collection. Follow ups to come.

Quality Defined

I recently had the privilege of taking a trip out to visit our boy Jeff Bloodhound at his studio. For those of you who are wondering what type of machines use, this is it. First he showed me the equiptment he is running which is no joke, I think if I were to sell one of these machines I could probably pay for my entire tuition. He than ran me through the whole process from start to finish. Nothing Jeff uses to build his machines are premade or shipped from over seas.

Every single piece from the contact screws...

 to the armatuer bars...

to the frames themselves, are all hand crafted and cut right here in the lab. That hand quality and prestine craftsmanship that Jeff is so passionate about is what sets him apart from the rest.

What makes for the perfect machine? We had a long talk regarding some machines that he is building for me right now. Lately we have been trying to push the boundary with the past few machines he has built for me, making minor tweaks here and there, and I think we might now have come up with the ultimate formula. I swear Jeff is like the mad scientist when he's in here, he takes an idea and just runs with it, not stopping until he has mastered it. This man knows exactly what he is doing and in my opinion is by far one of the most talented machine builders of our time. Truly an honor to get a glimpse into what goes on behind the curtains with the art of machine building. For more information about contacting Jeff click here.

Give Thanks

Arturo is back in to add to his collection surrounding the first piece of script that I did under the watchful eye of Jose when I arrived in January. In the light of the holiday, I am pleased to say that I have much to be thankful for this year. I made the trip down to LA with dreams and aspirations and nothing more. No place to live, no place to work, the only thing for certain was that I had been accepted to attend the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. I knew not what to expect, but I knew my mind was ready. I had convinced myself that the stars had alligned for me and that the time was now. I had found much trouble in my past, and now had an opportunity dictate what type of footprint I would leave behind with my life, and made the decision it was to be greater than what it was. I had arrived in LA after being on the road all day and made my way directly to Fountain Valley to see the man that would prove to change my life forever. I am blessed and very fortunate to have found Jose. I remember walking in that night, he was working at the time I arrived, but had stopped what he was doing to hear me out. His client ended up having to wait a few more hours to get back to work for we talked for awhile. That night he made the decision to take me under his wing and since that night he has been nothing but a positive influence in my life in and outside of the studio. I have learned an incredible amount from Jose and continue to do so with everything that he shares with me. Its an almost unrealistic thought to think you can get anywhere in this world without the help of others. It takes a collective effort of equally invested individuals to achieve the greatest things that life has to offer. Take a minute to salute the ones that have helped you out along the away...

I guess what I am trying to say here is if you are one of the lucky ones to actually realize your dreams there is no reason that you should limit yourself from pursuing and acheiving them. Jose told me once that ,"time whats for no man, don't be the one that lets it pass you by." There is no better time than now, to begin the fight for what you believe. Whether it be an engineer or doctor that you aspire to be, or a father, or maybe its an artist. The only one to limit yourself from acheiving this is you. Once you have built the courage to dedicate your mind, body and soul completely, believe me, the rest will be easy. To my young dreamers out there, I salute you! May your journey be a smooth one...

There is great meaning in life for those who are willing to journey. -Jim England

Happy thanksgiving to all from your boy Noah

Give Refuge

Client traveling from Northern England is back in to continue. While the brothers were on the grind in London it was nonstop in the LA studio. Not an easy session to pull through, Gareth sat like a warrior.

After the foundation has settled in we can continue to layer the greys, which allows us to achieve a richer and wider value range.

Another fulfilling project, feels good to see this one come full circle. Keep an eye out for more to come with this collection, come London in January.

Sisters Of The Inquisition

Had the privelage of visiting with the big brother Shaun Berke at his studio today. When you hear about all of these incredibley talented underground  painters, and they are out there, Shaun is one at the top of that list. Fellow Art Center alumn who stills come back to teach as well, this guy's talent and knowledge in the field of painting goes unmatched. With a solo exhibition nearing at the reputable La Luz De Jesus Gallery, my man has been dedicating much time into his newest body of work entitled, "Sister's of the Inquistion."

"When principles are put to the question, there is no escaping physical reality. Though an idea cannot be broken, a bearer can. Fire speaks to ice, and an acolyte melts. These are the forms of water, unbound, in the house of black and white. These are wet nuns.  Drink Venezia dry."

Luckily for me he took some time fom his hectic schedule to talk with me about his work and show me around his studio. Its always inspiring to walk into a room filled with amazing work, not just finished but in process as well.

Shaun has been experimenting lately developing his own techniques, which are beyond me at this point. The technical level he is executing is truly incredible. But yet he makes it look so easy...

You can tell much about a man by what books he houses in his library. It pays to be the one that knows...

"SISTERS OF THE INQUISITION"

January 4 - 27, 2012

Artist Reception: Friday, January 4th; 8-11 PM

A big thanks to Shaun for having me. Note that this is only a glimpse into what he will be showcasing come January. If you are in the area this show is a MUST.

Slip Away

Longtime client Gary is back in from Texas to start sealing up the chest. Playing with the idea of time and how easily it can slip away from us if we don't don't take full advantage of every moment. Another smooth session with Gary, more to come.

Thin Line Between Love and Hate

Heres a look at an original painting I finished up last month based on the ancient Greek tragedy of Medea written by the great Euripides. For those of you who are not familiar with her story, it is one filled with plenty of drama, betrayal and revenge. Medea was a mother of two children that not only left her home and everything behind to be with her husband Jason, but also saved his life and is the reason that he was pushed into greatness for slaying the dragon. This is the kind of woman you just dont use up, throw away, and leave behind for another woman without expecting to see any reproductions. To seek revenge she not only took the life of his new bride, but took the lives of their two children as well. This woman made sure her first cut was the deep.

When approaching this project I chose to stay focused on the phsycology of the piece. The killing and the revenge is one thing, but I wanted to take a step back and look deeper into her story. My depiction of Medea takes place during the moment where she conciously or not decides that there is only one way out of the situation brought before her... the moment where this woman essentially goes from a loving mother and wife to a ruthless murderer with nothing but revenge on her mind.

"Nothing inspires forgiveness quite like revenge." Scott Adams

It felt good to wrap up this piece. My love for the craft of painting has grown much throughout this project and  I can assure you this is only the beginning... stay tuned
